St John of Jerusalem Eye Hospital

On Friday 10th June, 7:30pm at the Trinity, Mr Nick Astbury will deliver what promises to be a hugely interesting and informative talk on the St John of Jerusalem Eye Hospital.

Nick is an eye surgeon and Shotesham resident and was medical advisor to the St John of Jerusalem Eye Hospital from 2009-2015. The story of St John started in the 11th century when the first hospice was founded in Jerusalem and “an enormous multitude of sick people, both men and women, attended and were restored to health daily at very great expense”. This may sound familiar!

The talk will cover some of the history leading up to the first eye hospital in 1882 and the successes and challenges of preventing blindness in Jerusalem, the West Bank and Gaza, up to the present day.

Palestinian snacks and mint tea will be served, but feel free to bring your own wine or drinks if you wish.

No admission charge for this excellent evening, but if you wish to make a donation to the hospital it would be very much appreciated.
